Hacivat:
Mr Shakespeare pronounces
Man has seven stages of seven ages
The suckling kid, the school boy, the lover, and the soldier
The round belly, the manly voice,
then the spectacles on the nose
Is there any more truthful truth than the ultimate end?
As death falls upon us, the scale is equal.
Hence, a bit of laughter in between is needed by all
To remain warm with delight until that final bend
Then, turn the light on shadow-master, bring the cymbal
And let Hacivat, Karagöz and company, on the curtain, fall
“All the world’s a stage”
“And all the men and women merely players,”
“They have their exits and entrances,”
“To be or not to be” is the question mid-page
Yet, if you’re nothing but a shadow upon the curtain,
The philosophy of existence is nothing but a fiction
Then, turn the light on shadow-master, bring the cymbal
And let Hacivat, Karagöz and company, on the curtain, fall
There’s the hand that separated wrong from right
There’s the hand that holds the sticks tight
Whether it’s the stage of the world in its might
Or the curtain that maintains the sight
Behind the light
Shadow-master, by the name of Küşteri
Humbly hopes to fill your night
With banter, laughter and some such delight
And wishes to keep you merry
Then, turn the light on shadow-master, bring the cymbal
And let Hacivat, Karagöz and company, on the curtain, fall
